World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Events in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Lorain

Once a year, on June 15, communities, cities, and municipalities plan activities that will not only promote elder abuse awareness, but also present strategies and solutions for abuse prevention. Here’s what’s happening in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Lorain Counties. These WEAAD events are free and open to the public.

  • Wednesday, June 15, 2016, Second Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Observance, 3:00 pm, Lake County Council on Aging, 8520 East Avenue, Mentor, Ohio. Lake County Council on Aging has also asked Lake County Commissioners to proclaim June 15 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. ASA and LCCOA 2nd Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
  • Wednesday, June 15, 2016, Lorain County Job and Family Services staff will host a dress down day in observance of WEAAD. Employees are asked to wear purple and to urge other Lorain businesses to follow their example. In addition, Lorain County JFS, has asked their Commissioners to proclaim June 15 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Watch for a press release promoting WEAAD .
  • Thursday, June 30, 2016, Cuyahoga County DSAS Elder Abuse Awareness Community Forum, 11:45 am – 3:30 pm, Centers for Families and Children, 4500 Euclid Avenue.
    Keynote Speaker is Paul Greenwood, Deputy District Attorney, San Diego, California.

    The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization of the United Nations launched World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) June 15, 2006.
